The 2011 GMC Sierra 2500HD pickup takes many forms of the -ton truck in the GMC full-sized truck lineup. Sold in Work Truck, SLE and SLT trim levels, GMC has added some luxury touches for the 2011 Sierra 2500HD branching the Denali name onto the company's heavier duty trucks. While Work Truck trims features more basic equipment such as air conditioning and electronic stability control, luxury-themed Sierra 2500HD Denali is appointed with leather seating alongside other high-tech features. The entire GMC Sierra 2500HD lineup comes standard with a gasoline-fueled Vortec 6-liter V-8 engine sporting up to 360 horsepower and 380 pounds-feet of torque. For greater power, an advanced 6.6 liter Duramax turbodiesel V-8 produces 765 pounds-feet of torque at just 1,600 RPMs. Assured a high-powered take-off, the turbodiesel is mated with an Allison 6-speed automatic transmission. Both engines can be combined with either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive capability. While the gasoline Vortec V-8 has an exceptionally high maximum towing capacity of 14,700 pounds when combined with a two-wheel drive short box regular cab, the 6.6 liter Duramax turbodiesel engine betters that performance at towing 17,800 pounds.
The Sierra range perennially continues to be one of GM's biggest sellers. This means GM continually works hard to innovate and improve the truck's design. As a result, the consumer wins--whether hauling equipment to a job site, working a farm or towing a boat, the Sierra 2500 and 3500 are built for tough work, and are some of the best-designed trucks available from any manufacturer. Made in either short or long bed form, with 2- or 4-wheel drivetrain, optional dual rear wheels and with a choice of several impressively powerful engines, the Sierra can be set up do just about anything asked of it. The 2500, even simply configured, is capable of towing over 10,000 pounds and base prices start around $28,000.
For 2011, the Sierra HD line gets several updates, including greater towing and payload capacities as well as an all-new chassis. A new front bumper and grille have also been fitted. New 18- and 20-inch wheels are available on single rear wheel models. The base 6.0L V8 returns largely unchanged, while the 6.6L Duramax diesel now delivers 397 horsepower and an impressive 765 pound-feet of torque. 3500 models are rated to tow up to 20,000 pounds and have a payload capacity of just over 6,300 pounds--all while delivering an 11 percent increase in fuel efficiency. Both the 2500 and 3500 are still available in a multitude of configurations to suit every work or play application imaginable.
The 2500 and 3500 come with a 6.0-liter V8 engine standard, though a 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V8 is available. All Sierras come with a heavy-duty 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2500 and 3500 can be had as either a regular, extended or crew cab, with a standard or long bed, and with either a 2- or 4-wheel drivetrain. Dual rear wheels are available on some models. There are four trim levels, Work Truck, SLE, SLT and Denali.
