Launching last year as a 5-passenger crossover, the GMC Terrain returns in 2011 with few notable changes. Featuring SLE and SLT trims levels, the 2011 GMC Terrain comes standard with a 2.4 liter 4-cylinder utilizing direct injection and variable valve timing. Available in front-wheel and all-wheel drive, the 182 horsepower base engine for the Terrain crossover produces very acceptable fuel economy. Around 27 miles per gallon average with a front-wheel drive 2011 GMC Terrain, all-wheel drive versions still achieves more than 24 miles per gallon through combined city and highway driving. Optional on the 2011 GMC Terrain is the 3-liter direct-injected V-6 generating an enthusiastic 264 horsepower. For 2011, the 3-liter V-6 engine GMC Terrain can now be propelled with E85 fuel. Standard equipment found on every 2011 GMC Terrain includes power windows and locks, four auxiliary 12-volt power outlets, air conditioning as well as XM satellite radio. Audio system with 7-inch touchscreen navigation and a rear seat entertainment system is optional on the 2011 GMC Terrain.

The 2011 GMC Terrain is an exciting contender in the mid-size crossover segment. It has the same platform as the Chevrolet Equinox and shares a general aesthetic with both the Acadia and the latest Chevrolet Malibu. The Terrain's rocker panels are integrated into the doors, narrowing the area over which a passenger must step. The body is stiffened with single-piece side stampings plus high-strength steel in critical areas.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance.
