One of the last new cars likely to feature a starting price tag below $10,000 in the United States, the subcompact 2011 Hyundai Accent is all about thrifty, economical commuting. The 2011 Hyundai Accent is available in either a 3-door hatchback with 3 trim levels or a 4-door sedan body style featuring only a GLS trim. With standard features spartan on the base 2011 Accent 3-door GL, some items do include 6 airbags, cabin air filter and a 12-volt interior power outlet. Items such as power windows, air conditioning and leather-wrapped steering wheel can be found on the 2011 Accent SE are standard features. Using a no-frills drivetrain, the 2011 Hyundai Accent is powered by a 1.6 liter inline-4 engine mated with either a 5-speed manual or an optional 4-speed automatic transmission (standard only on the Accent GS model). Efficiently moving the under 2,533-pound vehicle with 110 horsepower, fuel economy for the 2011 Hyundai Accent averages 30 miles per gallon in combined city and highway driving.
Similar to the Rio from Hyundai's Kia group, the Hyundai Accent is one of most affordable cars on the road, with base prices starting at $9,970 and the top range topping out less than $17,000. The Rio has an impressive 92.2 total cubic feet of passenger room, defying the myth of small cars' cramped cabins. Fuel economy is also impressive, averaging 28 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.
For 2011, the Hyundai Accent sees only minor changes. Last year's Blue model has been renamed the GL, and the SE now gets a lower price point and 16-inch wheels. The GS now gets a 172-watt sound system with standard MP3 and iPod connectivity. Two new colors join the options list as well: Clearwater Blue and Boston Red.
The 2011 Hyundai Accent is available in several trim levels: the GL, the GS hatchback, the midrange GLS sedan and the luxurious SE hatchback. All trims have a 1.6L 4-cylinder engine that makes 110 horsepower and 106 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to a standard 5-speed manual or an optional 4-speed automatic transmission. (The GL is only available with a 5-speed manual). MacPherson Struts are used in front and a torsion beam suspension is used in the rear.
