Launched in the 2002 model year as a replacement to the long-running Cherokee, a styling update in 2008 has allowed the Jeep Liberty to be presented as a contemporary, trustworthy sport utility vehicle. The 2011 Jeep Liberty continues to expand on trim choices with the option of rear-wheel, all-wheel or a full time four-wheel drive systems. The entry-level 2011 Jeep Liberty Sport offers standard keyless entry remote, 12-volt power outlet and air conditioning. The high-end 2011 Liberty Limited upgrades to premium leather seating, Uconnect Phone and HomeLink transceiver. As Jeep added a Renegade trim level in 2010 for best exploiting the brand's 'Trail Rated' capability, the 2011 Jeep Liberty is accompanied with a new Jet appearance package which can be equipped on the Liberty Sport and the Liberty Limited. Possessing an unique look with polished aluminum wheels and chrome exterior pieces, a Dark Slate Gray leather interior features a 9-speaker sound system and parking assist safety equipment. A 3.7 liter V-6 engine powers all 2011 Jeep Liberty with 210 horsepower.

Model Review

The Jeep Liberty retains its 210-hp, 3.7L V6 engine, mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission, a package capable of towing up to 5000 pounds. There are three models, the Sport, Renegade and the Limited, which now includes a Jet model with more chrome, 20-inch wheels as well as a 70th anniversary edition that features a hard-drive-based media center, chrome trim and power seats. All are available in rear-wheel or 4-wheel drive. Two 4-wheel drive systems are also available: the standard, part-time Command-Trac or the available full-time Selec-Trac II.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests: Driver Crash Grade: Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury. Passenger Crash Grade: Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger. Rollover Resistance: Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover. Side Impact Crash Test - Front: Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury.
