Attacking the urban jungle with a new front and rear bodywork for 2011, the Jeep Patriot comes available in Sport, Latitude as well as a Latitude X trim levels. Standard on the 2011 Jeep Patriot Sport is 16-inch wheels, anti-lock brakes and fog lamps. Latitude as well as Latitude X-trimmed 2011 Jeep Patriot models upgraded standard equipment includes power windows, air conditioning and 17-inch wheels. For 2011, every Patriot features a modernized interior using new materials within the 5 passenger cabin. With front-wheel, all-wheel drive and a trail-rated four-wheel Freedom Drive II drivetrain, a 2.0 liter inline-four worth 158 horsepower is found standard with all 2011 Jeep Patriot equipped to front-wheel drive. For the Latitude X lineup as well as every all-wheel or Freedom Drive II-equipped 2011 Patriot, standard power from a 2.4 liter four-cylinder engine produces 172 horsepower. Fitted with five-speed manual or a continuously-variable transmission, at least 21 miles per gallon average fuel economy is obtained.
The Patriot is an unexpectedly capable city car, combining a boxy, rugged-looking traditional Jeep appearance with car-like handling, good outward visibility, an economical powertrain, an interior that's comfortable for four adults and a city-friendly small-car size. Although the base model is basic, it's quite a bargain for a vehicle that includes all the essential safety equipment; and for those willing to option-up, there are more high-tech options than is typical for a basic sport-utility. Plus the Patriot achieves some of the best fuel economy numbers in its class.
For 2011, Jeep's entry-level compact returns with only a few changes. Both inside and out, subtle restyling took place. The grille is new and inside, an improved console enhances ergonomics.
The Patriot shares much of its mechanical components with both the Jeep Compass and the Dodge Caliber, including a layout that's much more car-like than any of Jeep's larger models. With a MacPherson strut front suspension and rear multi-link setup, quick-ratio rack-and-pinion steering and a very manageable 174 inches of total length, the Patriot is very maneuverable.
