Favorably received in the ultra-competitive compact four-door sedan category, the 2011 Kia Forte three trim levels ranging from LX, EX and SX shows off an affordable, well-equipped car. Presented with a sizable standard convenience list, all 2011 Kia Forte sedans feature Bluetooth connectivity, dual 12-volt power outlets, tilt steering column and sound system providing auxiliary as well as USB connections for MP3 players. Power windows, air conditioning and an audio system upgraded to six speakers is found in the 2011 Kia Forte EX. On the top SX trim model, sport seating with optional leather appointment, sport-tuned suspension and automatic headlamps are found on the Kia Forte sedan. Both the 2011 Forte LX and EX are motivated by a 2-liter four-cylinder producing 156 horsepower while the Forte SX model steps up to a 173 horsepower 2.4 liter unit. What's new for 2011?

For 2011, an all-new 5-door hatchback, called the Forte 5-Door, joins the lineup, which last year consisted of a 4-door Forte sedan and 2-door Forte Koup. Also, an all-new 6-speed automatic transmission replaces the 4- and 5-speed automatics previously offered--improving fuel economy slightly--and a new 6-speed manual replaces the 5-speed. Otherwise, the Kia Forte lineup returns for 2011 with few changes, although steering-wheel paddle-shifters are now offered on all Forte SX models.

Model Review

The Forte now comes in three different body styles--Forte sedan, Forte Koup (2-door coupe) and Forte 5-door (hatchback)--as well as three different trims: LX, EX and SX. Forte sedans are the only body style to be offered in all three body styles, while Forte Koup and Forte 5-door models can be had only in EX or SX trim.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests: Driver Crash Grade: Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury.
