Bringing hybrid power to a luxury crossover vehicle, the 2011 Lexus RX 450h has been contradicting what was once the universal acceptance that larger utility vehicles sported heavy fuel consumption. Combining a 3.5 liter V-6 engine with three electric motors, the 2011 RX 450h is smoothly-propelled by 295 horsepower total. Being a luxury crossover, the 2011 Lexus RX 450h is built for ultimate comfort for 5 passengers. Ten-way power front seats, nine speaker Lexus Premium Audio system and Bluetooth connectivity are standard on all 2011 RX 450h models. A Sport package is no longer included on the 2011 RX 450h optional equipment list, but a Luxury Package continues to be available for an extra dose of premium motoring. Added along with an HDD navigation as well as the Premium Package, the 2011 Lexus RX 450h all-wheel model's Luxury Package includes Semi-Aniline leather seating and a wide-view side monitor system.

The RX 350 and RX 450h land squarely in the full-sized luxury SUV segment, with the amenities and horsepower to back it up. What's new for 2011?

There were no major changes for 2011 for the RX SUV, since there was a redesign for 2010. It's still available as the RX 350 and RX 450h -- for hybrid -- in either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. The 350 does get a new brake override system and both models have added new exterior paint colors.

The 350 and 450h both carry a 3.5-liter V6 under the hood. The 350 is rated at 275 horsepower, while the 450h can do 295 horsepower, thanks to the assistance offered by the electric motor. The 450h can operate using only electric, only gasoline, or use both in tandem. The 350 uses a conventional 6-speed transmission, but the 450h utilizes a continuously variable transmission.
