While both Porsche and Aston Martin have both recently added new 4-door grand touring models to their lineups, Maserati has had its Quattroporte since 2004, making them something of an expert. Legendary Italian design house Pininfarina contributed to the car's distinctive design, and Ferrari provided technical assistance as well as a pair of stellar V8 engines. Maserati's long history proves they know how to combine strong performance and the highest levels of luxury as well design that is intensely Italian. The Quattroporte's base prices start at $121,250-- about $86,000 cheaper than the Aston Martin.
Not much has changed for the Quattroporte since its major facelift for the 2009 model year. The 4-door sedan (Quattroporte being Italian for 'four-door') retains its luxurious interior appointments and powerful V8 engine for all three trim levels, base, S and Sport GT S. Some minor cosmetic updates have been made to the S model, and several options have been placed into packages to make customer ordering more simplified.
The Quattroporte starts with a 4.2L V8 making 400 hp and a top speed of 168 mph. The Quattroporte S and Sport GT S models share a larger 4.7L V8 and 430 hp in the S, 440 in the Sport GT S. Top speed inches up to 174 mph and 177 mph, respectively. The base and S models use an automatic 6-speed ZF transmission.
