The 2011 Mercedes-Benz M-Class is a five passenger luxury SUV available in diesel and hybrid trim levels. The base ML350 comes standard with a 268 hp producing 3.5-liter V6 engine, 7-speed automatic transmission, and RWD. Upgrading to the ML550 trim boosts power up to 382 hp thanks to a 5.5-liter V8 engine and grants the driver the convenience of 4-MATIC all-wheel-drive. Diesel and hybrid models are powered by a 210 hp 3.6-liter V6 diesel engine and a 335 hp full-hybrid V6 engine. Both diesel and hybrid models come standard with 4-MATIC all-wheel-drive and while the diesel comes equipped with the regular 7-speed automatic transmission the hybrid receives an 8-speed. Mileage varies depending on engine choice but on the low end the M-Class gets an EPA estimated 13 mpg city and 18 mpg highway while the hybrid variant gets an EPA estimated 20 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. Additional options are comprised of 20-inch alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights, iPod media interface, and rear seat entertainment system. Safety features include anti-lock braking, brake assist, blind spot assistance, and 10-way airbag protection. All M-Class models are covered for 2 years/50,000 miles.
The Mercedes-Benz M-Class is tough enough for light off-roading and has serious towing ability, yet it's spacious enough for four or five adults and has a smooth ride. With the ML350 Bluetec diesel and the ML450 Hybrid, the M-Class lineup is fuel-efficient without sacrificing performance or capability. But for those who want top performance, the ML63 AMG, with its 503-hp V8, remains the king of the lineup.
For 2011, the Mercedes-Benz M-Class vehicles receive only minor changes. Exterior side mirrors have been redesigned, while rearview mirrors feature a compass, as well as available Blind Spot assist and integrated rear view camera. The ML63 AMG model features a new hood, as well as darkened Bi-Xenon headlights with active light function. Diamond White Metallic exterior paint is new as well.
The M-Class is available with four different powertrains. The ML350 offers a 268-horsepower, 3.5L V6, and is available with either 4-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive. The rest of the lineup is all-wheel drive only. The ML550 gets a 382-hp, 5.0L V8, while the high-performance ML63 AMG adds a 503-hp, 6.3L hand-built V8. Across the line power is sent out via a 7-speed automatic transmission.
