All new in 2006 the 2011 Mitsubishi Eclipse has been tweaked and updated ever since, most notably new front and rear fascias, HID headlamps, stability control, a more aggressive exhaust note, and a blackout roof option. Available in Coupe and Spyder, the sporty Eclipse can be optioned with either a 2.4-liter 162-hp I4 or a bored and stroked 3.8-liter 265-hp MiVEC V6. Transmission options are a 4-speed auto or 5-speed ShiftTronic auto which help to achieve up to 20/28 mpg city/hwy. With mid 6 second 0-60 times, optional 650-watt Rockford Fosgate audio, Bluetooth phone connectivity, leather, 6 standard airbags, and a sport suspension, the Mitsubishi Eclipse gives buyers an excellent value when compared to competitors Scion tC and Honda Civic Coupe.
For sporty driving on the cheap, the Eclipse has been a go-to car for years in either coupe or spyder form. A strong standard safety features list, much available equipment and a highway fuel economy rating of 28 miles per gallon on the highway make it a smart choice for sporty commuting.
For 2011, the Mitsubishi Eclipse sees only minor changes. A new GS manual transmission model will be released mid-year. The GS Sport trim features heated leather seats and a power driver's seat and high-intensity headlamps and 18-inch wheels. The GT gets new 18-inch wheels, and the Rockford Fosgate stereo now has Sirius Satellite Radio.
The Eclipse comes as a GS, GS Sport, or GT in either the coupe or Spyder configurations. The GS and GS Sport have a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with 162 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. The GT ups that to a 3.8-liter V6 with 265 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. The GS comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission, though a 5-speed manual is available; the GT has a standard 5-speed auto with an optional 6-speed manual.
