The 2011 Porsche Boxster is a mid-engine roadster that is powered by a 2.9-liter flat-6 engine that produces 255 hp and 214 lb-ft of torque. Upgrading to the Boxster S model grants the driver a 3.4-liter flat-6 engine that produces 310 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. The top trim is a light-weight Boxster Spyder that boasts the same engine as the Boxster S but thanks to 176 lbs of weight loss gets 320 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. All boaster models are RWD and come standard with a six-speed manual transmission. The Boxster gets an EPA estimated 19 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. Options include PDK transmission, Porsche Communication Management system, Bose sound system, hardtop, and Bluetooth connectivity. Safety features are comprised of 6 airbags, Porsche Stability Management, Porsche Side Impact Protection, vehicle tracking system/anti-theft protection, and advanced four-piston aluminum monoblock brake calipers. The Boxster comes with a 4-years/50,000-mile warranty.
The 2011 Porsche Boxster is a true standout in the market--a mid-engine sports car that can hold its own on the track, yet be reasonably comfortable as a touring car with solid fuel economy. The Boxster's steering and handling are praised far and wide as among the best of any vehicle, while its good seats and flexible engines make it just as much at home on the commute as the track. This year, the new Spyder now appeases those who want an even leaner Boxster that makes some sacrifices but is focused entirely toward lap times and driving feel.
While most of the Porsche Boxster lineup carries over to 2011 unchanged, the Boxster Spyder is new, a model that aims for weight savings and go-lean track prowess above all else.
The Boxster is powered by a 255-horsepower, 2.9L horizontally opposed 'boxer' 6-cylinder engine, while the Boxster S gets a 3.4L version with direct injection, making 310 hp. Both engines have variable valve timing, and performance is impressive with either choice.
