Debuting in 2009 as the high-performance version of BMWs quirky crossover, the X6 M was the immediate power punch befitting of the exotic sport design. Donning special sport suspension, 4-wheel ventilated brakes and 20-inch light alloy wheels, the 2012 BMW X6 M enforces strong European road presence. Propelled by a 547 horsepower version of BMWs TwinPower 4.4 liter V-8 engine, the 2012 X6 M 501 pounds-feet of torque is guided through an M Sport 6-speed automatic transmission. Despite the 2012 BMW X6 Ms utility quality 4,894 pounds of curb weight, the horsepower production delivered through an xDrive all-wheel drive system sends the vehicle from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 4.7 seconds. Adaptive Xenon headlamps, Hill Descent Control, Dynamic Cruise Control and Brake Energy Generation are significant standard features found on the 2012 BMW X6 M crossover. Inside the performance crossover vehicles cabin, the 2012 BMW X6 Ms brushed aluminum trim comes with 14-way power front seats and rear privacy glass. Taking four occupants along for the ride since introduction in 2009, the 2012 BMW X6 M now adds an optional 5-passenger capacity.
Premiering in 2009 and marketed as a 'Sport Activity Coupe', the X6 is based on the X5 and adeptly combines the sportiness of a coupe with the practicality of an SUV. Quick for its size and height, the X6 offers impressive cornering due to a nearly perfect 50/50 weight distribution, wide tires and BMW's Dynamic Performance Control all-wheel drive system.
For 2012, the BMW X6 line sees no major changes. Several enhancements have been made to the list of standard equipment, including standard auto-dimming mirrors, tinted glass, heated front seats and BMW Assist with Bluetooth. A newly optional rear middle seat allows seating for five.
The X6 for 2012 is offered with a choice of several powertrains. The 35i features a turbo-charged 6-cylinder engine rated at 300 horsepower. The 50i utilizes a 4.4L twin-turbo V8 engine capable of 400 horsepower. The hybrid X6 combines the 4.4L V8 with an 84-horsepower electric motor and battery pack, which BMW calls 'ActiveHybrid.' Finally, the X6 M comes with a tuned version of the 4.4L V8, making 555 horsepower. The 35i and 50i X6s come with an 8-speed automatic transmission with Steptronic manual shift mode and steering wheel paddles. The hybrid uses a 7-speed version of the Steptronic transmission, while the M gets a 6-speed automatic.
