The entry-level of Chevrolet�s HD pickup range, the 2012 Silverado 2500 comes in a wide assortment of configurations. Offered is either a regular, extended or crew cab body style. Features such as air conditioning, dual 12-volt power outlets as well as StabiliTrak is found on all 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD. Standard and long box beds can also be matched with extended or crew cab versions allowing for flexibly work capabilities. The 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD offers two unique powerplant choices. Offered as the base engine, a Vortec 6-liter V-8 powerplant fulfills the pickup truck�s demanding requirements with 360 horsepower and 380 pounds-feet of torque. Connected through a Hydra-Matic 6-speed automatic transmission, the 2012 Silverado 2500HD gasoline engine can be exchanged for a more aggressive diesel. A 6.6 liter turbo-diesel Duramax V-8, 397 horsepower is companioned with stunning pulling power of 765 pounds-feet of torque. Both engines are available on rear-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations. Mated to an Allison 6-speed automatic gearbox, the Duramax V-8 equipped 2012 Silverado 2500HD pickups can tow up to 17,500 pounds.

What's new for 2012?

The heavy-duty Silverado pickup carries into 2012 mostly unchanged, but a few new options have become available. The LT trims gain, depending on the region, a Texas Edition and Custom Sport Truck package, essentially identical, that include 20-inch forged aluminum wheels, power-adjustable camper mirrors, heavy-duty trailering, locking rear differential, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth, steering wheel audio controls, power seats, fog lamps, running boards and chrome accents.

Model Review

The 2500 and 3500 come with a 6.0L V8 engine standard, though a 6.6L turbo-diesel V8 is available. All Silverados come with a heavy-duty 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2500 and 3500 can be had as either a regular, extended or crew cab, with a standard or long bed, and with either a 2- or 4-wheel drivetrain. Dual rear wheels are available on some models. There are three trim levels, WT, LT and LTZ.
