Measuring a hulking 222.4 inches in total length, the 2012 GMC Yukon XL avails 45.8 cubic feet of rear cargo room even when the sport utility is packed to its maximum 9-passenger capacity. Sold in SLE, SLT and Denali trim, the 2012 GMC Yukon XL all include standard safety features such as StabiliTrak, six airbags, tire-pressure monitoring system, anti-lock braking and OnStar. The 2012 Yukon XL Denali presents an elite package of items such as leather seating, power liftgate and 20-inch chrome aluminum wheels. Most notably on the Denali trim is the inclusion of a 403 horsepower, 6.2 liter V-8 engine. Maximum towing for the 2012 Yukon XL is rated at 9,600 pounds.

Model Review

The Yukon and Yukon XL are GMC's full-size SUVs. The Yukon XL has a longer-wheelbase than the regular Yukon bigger brother. Both Yukons are offered in SLE, SLT and Denali models, while the Hybrid comes in a single trim. Each of these models is available with a choice of rear- or 4-wheel drive. The Yukons both offer a standard 320-horsepower, 5.3L V8 engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The heavy-duty Yukon XL 2500 also offers a 6.0L V8 that makes 352 hp and 382 lb-feet of torque. Yukon Denalis come with a 6.2L flex-fuel capable V8 that can make 403 hp and 417 lb-feet of torque.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests: Driver Crash Grade: Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH.
