Developed in the wake of more environmentally conscious driving, the 2012 GMC Yukon Hybrid preserves the large sport utility capabilities while achieving better fuel economy. Powered by a Vortec 6-liter V-8 gasoline engine, the 2012 Yukon Hybrid combines with a very unique 4-speed automatic gearbox. Called a two-mode transmission, the two electric motors are employed to either a rear or all-wheel drive system. Amounting to a total power production of 332 horsepower, the 2012 GMC Yukon Hybrid grants fuel efficiency of 20 miles per gallon city and 23 mile per gallon highway. Sporting a heavy duty rear differential, this efficient large utility vehicle can also effectively tow up to 6,200 pounds. Apart from the gasoline/electric powertrain, the 2012 Yukon Hybrid impresses with a wealth of standard features including OnStar, tri-zone climate control, XM NavTraffic and Bluetooth connectivity. A Yukon Denali Hybrid model is also available providing 22-inch wheels and other luxury appearance items.

Model Review

The Yukon and Yukon XL are GMC's full-size SUVs. The Yukon XL has a longer-wheelbase than the regular Yukon bigger brother. Both Yukons are offered in SLE, SLT and Denali models, while the Hybrid comes in a single trim. Each of these models is available with a choice of rear- or 4-wheel drive. The Yukons both offer a standard 320-horsepower, 5.3L V8 engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The heavy-duty Yukon XL 2500 also offers a 6.0L V8 that makes 352 hp and 382 lb-feet of torque. Yukon Denalis come with a 6.2L flex-fuel capable V8 that can make 403 hp and 417 lb-feet of torque.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests: Driver Crash Grade: Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury. Passenger Crash Grade: Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger. Rollover Resistance: Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover. Side Impact Crash Test - Front: Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury. Side Impact Crash Test - Rear: Similar to the front side impact test only now the focus is on the rear passenger.
