Debuting for the 2012 model year, the Infiniti M35h is the latest addition to a growing segment of luxury sedans incorporating electric-assist drivetrains. Featuring the conventional power of a 3.5 liter V-6 engine, the all-aluminum powerplant of the 2012 Infiniti M35h works in concert with a 50-kilowatt electric motor. Electric power is stored onboard the 2012 M35h in a lithium-ion battery compact enough to still allow 11.3 cubic feet of cargo room. The 2012 Infiniti M35h combined power from electric motor and gasoline engine produces 360 horsepower while netting 29 miles per gallon in average fuel economy on premium gasoline. A premium luxury sedan, the 2012 Infiniti M35h is found loaded with an array of convenience items including leather, front heated seats with 10-way power seats, XM satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, dual-zone climate control and Active Noise Control. Optional equipment for the 2012 Infiniti M35h includes Intelligent Cruise Control, Bose Surround Sound stereo and a Forest Air system designed to purify the sedan�s cabin area.

What's new for 2012?

For 2012, the Infiniti M gains a hybrid model--the very first gas/electric hybrid from Infiniti. It features a 3.5L V6 mated to an electric motor that makes a combined 360 horsepower. It needs no plug-in charging for its battery packs and can run on either powerplant separately, or both together. Not other changes have been made to the M line for 2012.

Model Review

The 2012 Infiniti M is now offered in three different models: M35h, M37 and M56. A 330-horsepower, 3.7L V6 engine is included with the M37, while the M56 upgrades to a 420-hp, 5.6L direct-injected V8. The all-new M35h features a 360-horsepower 3.5L V6 and electric motor combined, and can run on either one of its power sources at any given time. All models come with a 7-speed automatic transmission that has downshift rev matching and manual shift control. All-wheel drive is available in a road-performance-oriented system that can send up to 50 percent of torque to the front wheels.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests: Driver Crash Grade: Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury. Passenger Crash Grade: Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger. Rollover Resistance: Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover. Side Impact Crash Test - Front: Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury. Side Impact Crash Test - Rear: Similar to the front side impact test only now the focus is on the rear passenger.
