The 2012 Kia Sorento is a mid-size crossover SUV available with two different engines; a standard 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 175 hp and 169 lb-ft of torque, and an optional 3.5-liter V6 engine that generates 276 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque. A 6-speed automatic transmission can be paired with standard FWD or optional AWD to yield an EPA estimated range of 18 mpg city to 32 mpg highway, depending on engine and drivetrain selection. Features include 18-inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, rear LED taillights, surround sound audio system, navigation system with rear-camera display, audio input jacks, push button start, dual-zone climate control, leather seating, air-cooled driver seat, and heated front seats. Safety is comprised of an advanced airbag system, child-seat LATCH system, anti-lock braking, electronic stability control, traction control system, brake assist system, electronic brake-force distribution, side impact door beams, and tire-pressure monitoring. The Sorento is backed by a 5-year/60,000-mile warranty.
The new Sorento is sized between more compact crossover models like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 and mid-size models such as the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander. The RAV4 is a little more maneuverable than the larger vehicles while offering just as much practical space.
For 2012, the Kia Sorento returns with a new base level trim, as well as a new direct-injection 2.4L 4-cylinder engine that makes 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. The new engine is offered only with a 6-speed automatic, and it comes with chrome exhaust tips as standard equipment. Other new features include stain-resistant seat covers, 17-inch wheels on base models, and optional power folding mirrors. Top-level SX versions now have a heated wood-rim steering wheel.
For 2012, the Sorento offers a 4-cylinder engine with Base, LX, SX and EX GDI trims, but this year it comes in two versions. The standard engine is a 175-horsepower 2.4L 4-cylinder, offered on the Base and LX models. A new direct-injected 191-horsepower, 2.4L 4-cylinder engine has been added, standard on the LX GDI and EX GDI, and paired only with a 6-speed automatic. The SX's standard (and LX and EX-optional) 3.5L V6 makes 276 horsepower and brings especially strong acceleration with a smooth, refined character, while the new 4-cylinder is quite economical, achieving EPA ratings of up to 21 mpg city, 27 mpg highway in all-wheel drive configuration.
