Fresh off of last years impressive redesign, the 2012 Toyota Sienna is a seven passenger minivan available with two different engines; a standard 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 187 hp and an optional 3.5-liter V6 engine that yields 266 hp. Both engines are paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission and standard FWD (optional AWD is also available). Fuel mileage falls within an EPA estimated range of 18 mpg city to 25 mpg highway, depending on engine selection. Features include projector headlamps, dual power sliding doors, 19-inch wheels, three-zone climate control, backup camera, navigation system, and rear seat entertainment system. Safety is comprised of enhanced vehicle stability control, traction control system, anti-lock brake system, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist, smart stop technology, driver and front passenger advanced airbag system, side curtain airbags, front seat-mounted airbags, and tire pressure monitoring system. The Highlander Hybrid is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.

Toyota's Sienna keeps getting better every year. The current version offers both a 4-cylinder and a V6 engine as well as a pair of 6-speed automatic transmissions. Mileage estimates are up to 26 mpg on the highway, and the Sienna is the only minivan to offer all-wheel drive as an option as well as two seating configurations. Even the entry-level CE trim includes such comfort options such as keyless entry, three-zone air conditioning and 10 cup holders. Toyota has also engineered a clever 16' LCD monitor that allows rear seat occupants to watch two different video programs simultaneously.

What's new for 2012?

The SE model now comes with SIRIUS satellite radio and a USB audio input and the XLE gets an upgraded JBL audio system with 10 speakers and a subwoofer.

Two engines are available this year: a 187-hp 4-cylinder and a 265-horsepower 3.5L V6. Each engine comes linked to a 6-speed automatic transmission. What the 4-cylinder lacks in power, it more than makes up for in fuel economy--it's capable of 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway--a class-leading achievement.

Safety Ratings What do the Safety Ratings mean? The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests: Driver Crash Grade: Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury. Passenger Crash Grade: Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger. Rollover Resistance: Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover. Side Impact Crash Test - Front: Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury. Side Impact Crash Test - Rear: Similar to the front side impact test only now the focus is on the rear passenger.
