An all electric vehicle, the 2013 Ford Focus Electric is a compact hatchback with seating for five and a best in-class range of 76 miles per charge. Under the hood drivers will find a 23-kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery paired with a 92-kW electric motor, producing 143 hp. FWD, paired to a single speed automatic transmission, and regenerative braking enables the Focus Electric to achieve an EPA estimated 110 mpg city and 99 mpg highway. Features include ambient lighting, Sony� audio system with HD radio, iTunes� tagging, seat fabric made with REPREVE� fiber (100% recycled material), SYNC� with MyFord Touch�, navigation system, and leather seats. Model Review

The new Focus is offered in 4-door sedan or 5-door hatchback forms, in S, SE, SEL and Titanium and ST trims--although hatchbacks aren't offered in base S form and the high performance ST is hatchback only. S and SE models can be had with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or 6-speed PowerShift dual-clutch automatic transmission. SEL and Titanium models only come with the automatic, while the ST is only available with a 6-speed manual.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests: Driver Crash Grade: Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury. Passenger Crash Grade: Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger. Rollover Resistance: Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover. Side Impact Crash Test - Front: Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury.
