The GMC counterpart to the Chevrolet Silverado, the GMC Sierra 1500 is a full-size pickup truck with a maximum towing capacity of 7,200 lbs. Engines consist of a 4.3-liter V6 engine (195 hp), 4.8-liter V8 engine (302 hp), and 5.3-liter V8 engine (315 hp). Standard RWD and optional 4WD are available with all engines. A 4-speed automatic transmission is paired to the 4.3-liter V6 and 4.8-liter V8, while the 5.3-liter V8 is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is an EPA estimated 15 mpg city and 20 mpg highway. Features include 22-inch wheels, hands-free phone capabilities, steering wheel mounted controls, rear vision camera, navigation and heated exterior mirrors. Safety is comprised of advanced airbags, StabiliTrak stability control system, anti-lock braking (ABS), and tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The Sierra 1500 is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.

Model Review

GMC continues to offer two completely different interiors for its Sierra 1500 family of pickups: Work Truck, SL and SLE trims get a so-called 'pure pickup interior' that includes larger door handles and controls that are designed to be used with gloves on, while the SLT trim gets the same luxurious, softer, and more carlike interior that's used in the GMC Yukon. The SLT instrument panel is a bit lower to afford a better outward view, and several special color and trim themes are offered with the SLT exclusively.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests: Driver Crash Grade: Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury. Passenger Crash Grade: Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger. Rollover Resistance: Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover. Side Impact Crash Test - Front: Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury. Side Impact Crash Test - Rear: Similar to the front side impact test only now the focus is on the rear passenger.
