Now offered with a standard leather shift knob and steering wheel, the 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan is a compact FWD crossover vehicle powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 200 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque. Transmissions are comprised of a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. Fuel mileage falls within an EPA estimated range of 18 mpg city to 27 mpg highway, depending on transmission selection. Features include 17-inch alloy wheels, touch-screen sound system, heated front seats, heated windshield washer nozzles, 4WD, sunroof, navigation, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry with push-button start and ambient foot-well lighting. Safety is comprised of electronic stability control (ESC), six standard airbags with side curtain protection, intelligent crash response system, anti-lock braking system (ABS), anti-slip regulation (ASR), electronic differential lock, hydraulic brake assist (HBA), engine brake assist (BA), trailer roll stability program and tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The Tiguan is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.
The Volkswagen Tiguan stands out in the crowded field of compact crossover utility vehicles as being just a little sportier and more fun to drive. Handling and maneuverability are its strengths. The Tiguan's turbocharged engine offers impressive performance, while still being reasonably good with gas and the tall-roof design affords impressive interior space--especially for backseat occupants. It's also been a strong safety achiever; the IIHS named the 2010 Tiguan a Top Safety Pick for its excellent occupant protection.
The Tiguan remains relatively unchanged for 2013. An electronic parking brake is standard across the entire model range, as is a hill-hold feature that keeps the vehicle from rolling backwards on uphill starts. New trim pieces include a leather wrapped multifunction steering wheel and a leather wrapped shift knob. SE trims get a partially power adjustable passenger seat while SEL trims get one that is fully power adjustable. SEL trims also receive a rear back up camera.
The Tiguan is offered in S, LE, SE and SEL trims; both are offered either with front-wheel drive or 4Motion all-wheel drive, and while a 6-speed automatic transmission is available on either model, the S can be had with a 6-speed manual.
