Starting at | Starting at 34 MPG City - 38 MPG Highway
For city commuters who often contend with tight parking spaces and high fuel costs, the Smart fortwo is here to solve both your problems. The Smart's small size means it parks like a dream in almost any space. According to the EPA, the Smart is rated at 34 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway, for a combined 36 mpg, making it not only one of the smallest cars available in the U.S., but one of the most efficient.
For 2013, the diminutive Smart fortwo features restyled front and rear fascias and door sills, with a larger badge on the grille. Later in the model year, Smart will introduce the fortwo Electric Drive, available in either coupe or cabriolet form. The variant features an all-electric magneto motor rated at 74 hp and 90 ft-lb of torque. Smart has priced electric coupes at $25,000, while electric cabriolets will start at $28,000.
The Smart fortwo is available in three different trims: Pure coupe; Passion coupe and Passion cabriolet. Each comes with a 1.0L, 3-cylinder engine that makes 70 hp and 68 lb-ft of torque. It may not seem like much, but with its small body and a curb weight of less than 1,900 lb, it hardly matters. Planned for later in the year is a new plug-in fortwo Electric Drive model, offered in either coupe or cabriolet body style. Power will come from an electric magneto motor rated at 74 hp and 90 ft-lb of torque.
