It's not every day a youth-culture shoe company from southern California has an influence on a major manufacturer's work truck, but then the 2011 SEMA show isn't every day. DC Shoes - beloved footwear of skateboarders, snowboarders and almost anyone involved in leaving the ground upon which those shoes are supposed to walk - is a sponsor of the X Games, which takes in motocross, also known as riding motorbikes on anywhere but a paved road.
These bikes are naturally specialized machinery and need to be transported to events. Enter the Toyota Ultimate Motocross Truck, an all-wheel-drive 2012 Tundra Double Cab full-size pickup with not only a 381-horsepower 5.7-liter V8, but also a bespoke build, sporting items on the wish list of those athletes with DC's backing. These include a roof rack that doubles as a viewing deck, gas pump, air compressor, bike winch with fold-away ramp and a pressure washer system that cleans down the bikes after a hard day's motocrossing.
Because DC is part of this project, then a certain amount of style has to be present as well. Hence a custom embroidered interior and a street presence coming from a lifted suspension using Fox Racing shock absorbers. Another well-known company in the truck scene is Line-X, provider of this Tundra's rough-textured bed liner.
Most of the actual build work was carried out by West Coast Customs of Corona, California, whose reality show "Inside West Coast Customs" is on TLC and the Discovery Channel in December, where viewers will be able to see the Toyota Ultimate Motocross Truck and get some idea of all the time and effort that went into it.
