As Cadillac's traditional full-size luxury sedan, the 2011 Cadillac DTS offers classic design queues, uncompromised luxury and confident performance. The DTS is available with a standard 275-hp Northstar V8 or a 292-hp High Performance V8 on Platinum trim levels, both are linked to smooth shifting 4-speed automatic transmissions powering front-wheel drive and help achieve up to 15/22 mpg city/hwy. 5-passengers are rewarded with 41.6-inches of rear leg room, genuine wood trim, a hand stitched leather interior, heated/cooled massaging seats, remote start and magnetic ride control. Other available features are upgraded audio, adaptive HID headlamps, intelligent cruise control, Alcantara headliner trim and a blind zone alert system. Competitors include Lincoln MKS and Chrysler 300.

Model Review

Cadillac offers four versions of the DTS, all with a powerful 4.6L V8 under the hood that makes 275 horsepower. The top-level Platinum edition squeezes out a few more horsepower for a rating of 292. All versions feature a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, plus 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, StabiliTrak stability control, traction control and tire pressure monitoring. Rear parking assist is standard on all but the base DTS.

Safety Ratings What do the Safety Ratings mean? The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests: Driver Crash Grade: Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury. Passenger Crash Grade: Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger. Rollover Resistance: Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover. Side Impact Crash Test - Front: Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury. Side Impact Crash Test - Rear: Similar to the front side impact test only now the focus is on the rear passenger.
