2012 Cadillac Escalade EXT Truck

Summary

Provided by NADAguides.com

Having joined the Cadillac line-up in 2002, the principle of a crew cab pickup wearing the historic luxury car brand badge has been largely successful. Only equipped as an all-wheel drive model, the 2012 Cadillac Escalade EXT continues with few changes from the previous model year. Roaring with a 6.2 liter V-8 engine featuring E85 fuel compatibility, the Escalade EXT achieves fuel economy averaging over 15 miles per gallon. External coolers for engine and the 6-speed automatic transmission oils as well as heavy-duty locking rear differential acts effectively to boost the 2012 Escalade EXT into a serious workhouse. Utilizing a 45.5 cubic foot cargo bed and capable of towing up to 7,200 pounds, 5 passengers can ride inside the leather-trimmed interior of the 2012 Cadillac Escalade EXT. Relishing the benefits such as an 8-speaker, Bose 5.1 Surround Sound system, other standard features found on the 2012 Escalade EXT includes cruise control, HID headlamps and rearview camera. Offering base, Luxury and Premium trim models, the 2012 Cadillac Escalade EXT allows the addition of power sunroof as well as rear seat DVD entertainment system. 22-inch aluminum wheels are also available as optional equipment on the 2012 Cadillac Escalade EXT.

Benefits of Driving a 2012 Cadillac Escalade EXT Truck

The Cadillac Escalade has a lot in common with GM's other full-size SUVs-- the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban and GMC Yukon/XL, underneath--but you wouldn't know it inside. The Escalade's cabin is one of the most impressive, opulent interiors offered in an SUV, and ride quality and overall interior quality are top-notch. All the more impressive is the way the Escalade performs and handles considering its size and weight. The Hybrid version, although more expensive, doesn't give up any of the standard Escalade's luxury, handling, or ride quality, but does manage to get up to 50% better fuel economy.

What's new for 2012?

The Escalade enters 2012 with no significant changes from the 2011 model.

Model Strengths

  • Tough, stylish exterior
  • opulent interior appointments
  • strong V8 performance
  • impressive tow ratings
  • comfortable ride and handling for such a big truck-based vehicle
  • high-efficiency hybrid powertrain availability

Model Review

The Escalade includes three different models--the standard Escalade and extended-length Escalade ESV, which are luxurious sport-utility vehicles; and the Escalade EXT, which includes most of the attributes of the Escalade SUV but offers a pickup bed.

Safety Ratings help

What do the Safety Ratings mean?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests:

Driver Crash Grade:

Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury.

Passenger Crash Grade:

Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger.

Rollover Resistance:

Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover.

Side Impact Crash Test - Front:

Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury.

Side Impact Crash Test - Rear:

Similar to the front side impact test only now the focus is on the rear passenger.
