2012 Cadillac Escalade ESV Sport Utility

Summary

Provided by NADAguides.com

Riding on a wheelbase 14 inches longer than the regular Cadillac Escalade sport utility vehicle, the 2012 Escalade ESV is currently the largest vehicle in the American luxury brands line-up. With rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, the 2012 Cadillac Escalade ESV is offered in a base, Luxury, Premium or Platinum Edition trim. All 2012 Escalade ESVs are standard-equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, rearview camera and tri-zone climate controls. Upgrading to the Luxury and Premium models of the 2012 Cadillac Escalade ESV adds availability of rear seat entertainment system as well as a power sunroof. The top-end 2012 Escalade ESV Platinum Edition adds 22-inch wheels, Magnetic Ride Control and LED headlamps (other Escalade ESV feature HID head lighting). Featuring ample legroom for all three rows of passengers, there is still 45.8 cubic feet of cargo room even when up to 8 passengers are riding inside of the 2012 Cadillac Escalade ESV. All models of the 2012 Cadillac Escalade ESV are propelled by a 403 horsepower 6.2 liter V-8 engine channeled through a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Complimentary on all 2012 Escalade ESV models is a four-year or 50,000-mile Cadillac Premium Care Maintenance package that includes free scheduled oil changes, tire rotations and multi-point inspection.

Benefits of Driving a 2012 Cadillac Escalade ESV Sport Utility

The Cadillac Escalade has a lot in common with GM's other full-size SUVs-- the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban and GMC Yukon/XL, underneath--but you wouldn't know it inside. The Escalade's cabin is one of the most impressive, opulent interiors offered in an SUV, and ride quality and overall interior quality are top-notch. All the more impressive is the way the Escalade performs and handles considering its size and weight. The Hybrid version, although more expensive, doesn't give up any of the standard Escalade's luxury, handling, or ride quality, but does manage to get up to 50% better fuel economy.

What's new for 2012?

The Escalade enters 2012 with no significant changes from the 2011 model.

Model Strengths

  • Tough, stylish exterior
  • opulent interior appointments
  • strong V8 performance
  • impressive tow ratings
  • comfortable ride and handling for such a big truck-based vehicle
  • high-efficiency hybrid powertrain availability

Model Review

The Escalade includes three different models--the standard Escalade and extended-length Escalade ESV, which are luxurious sport-utility vehicles; and the Escalade EXT, which includes most of the attributes of the Escalade SUV but offers a pickup bed.

Safety Ratings help

What do the Safety Ratings mean?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests:

Driver Crash Grade:

Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury.

Passenger Crash Grade:

Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger.

Rollover Resistance:

Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover.

Side Impact Crash Test - Front:

Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury.

Side Impact Crash Test - Rear:

Similar to the front side impact test only now the focus is on the rear passenger.
