2012 Audi Q5 Sport Utility Crossover

Summary

Provided by NADAguides.com

The 2012 Audi Q5 is a compact luxury crossover SUV powered by two different engines. The base Q5 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 211 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. For upgraded performance, Audi offers an optional 3.2-liter V6 engine that produces 270 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque. The permanent 4-wheel drive system can be paired with either a 6-speed automatic transmission or an 8-speed automatic transmission for an EPA estimated range of 18 mpg city to 27 mpg highway, depending on engine selection. Features include xenon headlights, LED tail lights, heated side mirrors with LED turn signals, steering wheel controls, leather seating, panorama sunroof, heated front seats, three-zone automatic climate control, HD radio, Bang & Olufsen Sound System, navigation system, iPod/iPhone integration, and automatic windshield wipers. Safety is comprised of dual-stage front airbags, side thorax airbags, head curtain airbags, electronic stability control, anti-lock brake system, electronic brake-pressure distribution, and brake assist. The Q5 is backed by a 4-year/50,000-mile warranty.

Benefits of Driving a 2012 Audi Q5 Sport Utility Crossover

With the 2.0 TFSI engine and 8-speed automatic, the 2012 Audi Q5 performs similarly to its V6-equipped big brother while being much more fuel-efficient. The Q5 now gets an EPA highway rating of 27 mpg. The Q5 has the longest wheelbase in its class and that gives it an especially smooth, settled ride. With the V6, the Q5 has the highest towing capacity in its class. The Q5's rear-biased quattro all-wheel drive system brings more driving enjoyment than is typical for enthusiasts and those who might rather be driving a sport sedan, while the interior has just as much versatility and flexibility as other utility vehicles in this class.

What's new for 2012?

For 2012, Audi left well enough alone. The Q5 is available in four new paint colors, but the rest is carried over from 2011.

Model Strengths

Model Review

The 2012 Audi Q5 is offered with two different engines. A 211-horsepower, 2.0L TFSI turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and a 270-hp, 3.2L V6. With the 4-cylinder engine comes an 8-speed automatic transmission, while the V6 is paired with a 6-speed automatic. Both powertrains feature Tiptronic manual control, as well as the quattro all-wheel drive system, which sends about 60 percent of engine torque to the rear wheels under most driving conditions; on slippery surfaces or for better stability, the system will reapportion torque as needed.

Safety Ratings help

What do the Safety Ratings mean?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests:

Driver Crash Grade:

Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury.

Passenger Crash Grade:

Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger.

Rollover Resistance:

Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover.

Side Impact Crash Test - Front:

Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury.

Side Impact Crash Test - Rear:

Similar to the front side impact test only now the focus is on the rear passenger.
