2012 Chrysler 300 Sedan

Summary

Provided by NADAguides.com

The 2012 Chrysler 300 is a full-size entry-level luxury sedan available with RWD and AWD drivetrains. The standard 300 is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 292 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Chrysler also offers an optional 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine that yields 363 hp and 394 lb-ft of torque. For premium performance modifications drivers can upgrade to the SRT8 trim level, offering a 6.4-liter V8 engine that produces 465 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. Transmission choices consist of a 5-speed automatic and 8-speed automatic transmission with E-Shifter. Fuel mileage falls within an EPA estimated range of 14 mpg city to 31 mpg highway, depending on engine selection. Available features include navigation system, CD/MP3/DVD player, USB port, hands-free phone capabilities, sport leather bucket seats with heat/vent, 20-inch wheels, dual zone climate control, two mode adaptive damping suspension, remote start, keyless entry, rear camera, and automatic headlamps. Safety is comprised of advanced airbags, electronic stability control, anti-lock braking, brake assist, and tire pressure monitoring. The 300 is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.

Benefits of Driving a 2012 Chrysler 300 Sedan

The 300 presents a luxury big-car design and style at an affordable price. The 2011 redesign gave the 300 an Audi-like appearance and presence, but prices still start around $30,000. The lineup of powerful engines and available all-wheel drive mean the 300 also has performance credibility. Inside, a comprehensive list of standard equipment as well as safety technology means the 300 competes above its class in both features and price.

What's new for 2012?

Following a complete redesign in 2011, the 300 returns with minor changes for 2012. The V6-equipped versions now come with an 8-speed automatic transmission, which is said to boost highway mileage past 30 mpg. All-wheel-drive is also now available on V6-equipped versions.

Safety Ratings help

What do the Safety Ratings mean?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests:

Driver Crash Grade:

Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury.

Passenger Crash Grade:

Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger.

Rollover Resistance:

Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover.

Side Impact Crash Test - Front:

Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury.

Side Impact Crash Test - Rear:

Similar to the front side impact test only now the focus is on the rear passenger.
