2012 Ford F250 Truck

Summary

Provided by NADAguides.com

The 2012 Ford F-250 Super Duty is a full-size pickup truck available in regular and extended cab trim levels. The F-250 is powered by a standard 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 385 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. For upgraded performance, Ford offers an optional 6.7-liter turbocharged V8 diesel engine that produces 400 hp and a whopping 800 lb-ft of torque. All engine and drivetrain options, RWD and 4WD, are paired to the Ford TorqShift 6-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, specifically designed to handle extra torque. Conventional towing capacity is limited to a maximum load of 14,000 lbs. Features include roof clearance lights, 18-inch wheels, 5th wheel hitch kit, AM/FM radio with a CD/MP3 player, power equipment, stowable bed extender, rearview camera, steering wheel audio controls, and a remote start system. Safety is comprised of standard front airbags, standard curtain airbags, traction control, advanced stability control, trailer sway control, hill start assist, hill descent control, electronic locking rear differential, anti-lock braking, and tire pressure monitoring. The F-250 Super Duty is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.

Benefits of Driving a 2012 Ford F250 Truck

The F-Series Super Duty trucks bear a resemblance to the ubiquitous, jack-of-all-trades F-150 pickups, but these models have an especially pure purpose: to reliably, safely and confidently haul heavy loads or heavy trailers, day after day. What's surprising is that these workhorses are actually quite comfortable--and almost luxurious--inside.

What's new for 2012?

Ford's commercial-oriented Super-Duty trucks pick up a number of additional features that make it even more useful to those who work hard hauling cargo or towing large trailers. The Super Duty's first factory-installed fifth-wheel and gooseneck towing substructure--for some of the heaviest towing needs-has been expanded to trucks with the 6.75-foot cargo box for 2012 and include an electrical connection on the bed side wall.

Model Strengths

  • Flexibility for commercial use
  • tougher than standard full-size trucks
  • class-leading tow ratings
  • Power Stroke diesel's 800 pound-feet of torque
  • full roster of safety features

Model Review

The 2012 Ford Super Duty trucks are offered in F-250, F-350 and F-450 models, designating progressively higher tow and weight ratings. Compared to light-duty, full-size trucks, like the F-150, the Super Duty models have a stronger structure, along with heavy-duty components throughout and a powertrain lineup chosen for sheer pulling ability.

Safety Ratings help

What do the Safety Ratings mean?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests:

Driver Crash Grade:

Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury.

Passenger Crash Grade:

Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger.

Rollover Resistance:

Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover.

Side Impact Crash Test - Front:

Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury.

Side Impact Crash Test - Rear:

Similar to the front side impact test only now the focus is on the rear passenger.
