2012 Subaru Impreza Sedan

Summary

Provided by NADAguides.com

All new for 2012, the Subaru Impreza Sedan is a compact car powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 145 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. Transmissions consist of a 5-speed manual or CVT automatic, which are both paired with standard AWD. Fuel mileage is vastly improved to an EPA estimated 27 mpg city and 36 mpg highway. Features include 6-speaker audio system, hands-free phone capabilities, navigation, satellite radio, and heated front seats. Safety is comprised of vehicle dynamics control, traction controls system, tire pressure monitoring system, advanced front airbag system, side-curtain airbags, seat-mounted front side-impact airbags, and safety brake pedal system. The Impreza Sedan is backed by a basic 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.

Benefits of Driving a 2012 Subaru Impreza Sedan

The 2012 Subaru Impreza remains a great buy in the mid-size segment, thanks in large part to its standard all-wheel-drive, great safety rating, and availability as either a sedan or 5-door wagon. The focus has shifted to fuel economy, and the new 2.0L boxer engine returns impressive figures, including 27 mpg city and 36 mpg highway when equipped with Subaru's all-new continuously variable transmission (CVT). Subaru estimates that Imprezas with the CVT will be the most fuel-efficient all-wheel drive cars available. Base price or the new Impreza starts at $17,495. Power junkies can get their fix too, as the WRX and WRX STi models offer impressive performance in a small, affordable package based on the previous Impreza bodystyle.

What's new for 2012?

The Subaru Impreza sedan and wagon are redesigned for 2012. This means new exterior sheet metal, with a more steeply raked windshield and longer wheelbase. While exterior dimensions remain unchanged from the outgoing version, the effect creates a larger, roomier cabin with the added benefit of improved outward visibility.

Model Strengths

  • Standard all-wheel-drive
  • great safety features
  • available wagon versatility
  • impressive performance from WRX models

Model Review

Subaru's popular lineup of Impreza sedans and wagons returns for 2012 with an all-new look and feel. In sedan form, the Impreza is offered in three trims: 2.0i, 2.0i Premium, and 2.0i Limited. The Impreza wagons add 2.0i Sport Premium and 2.0i Sport Limited trims to the mix. All Imprezas are all-wheel drive and all come powered by a new 2.0L flat-4 engine, which produces 148 horsepower and 145 ft-lb of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard on all but the 2.0i Limited, which has Subaru's Lineartronic continuously variable transmission as standard equipment. The CVT is optional on all other Imprezas.

Safety Ratings help

What do the Safety Ratings mean?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests:

Driver Crash Grade:

Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury.

Passenger Crash Grade:

Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger.

Rollover Resistance:

Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover.

Side Impact Crash Test - Front:

Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury.

Side Impact Crash Test - Rear:

Similar to the front side impact test only now the focus is on the rear passenger.
