The 2013 Buick Verano is now offered with three different powertrain possibilities--as opposed to a single one for 2012. Base Verano models include a 180-horsepower, 2.4L 4-cylinder engine with direct injection. It powers the front-wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission and provides acceleration that's on par with most mid-size sedans--and especially quiet and refined--while returning EPA ratings of 21 mpg city, 32 highway. For 2013, a new turbocharged 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, making 250 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, joins the lineup and it can be paired with either a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests: Driver Crash Grade: Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH.
