Summary
Provided by NADAguides.com
The 2012 BMW X3 is acompact SUVavailable in two different trim levels; standard xDrive28i and an optional xDrive35i. The standard X3 is powered by a 2.0-liter twin-turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 240 hp while the upgraded trim gets the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that yields 300 hp. Both trims are paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission that enables the X3 to achieve an EPA estimated 21 mpg and 28 mpg highway. New for 2013 are 18-inch alloy wheels, power tailgate, and start/stop technology. Features include xenon HID headlights, automatic climate control, panoramic moonroof, HD radio, and USB adapter. Safety is comprised of dynamic stability control (DSC), anti-lock braking system (ABS), advanced airbags, and tire pressure monitoring (TPMS). The X3 is backed by a 4-year/50,000-mile warranty.
Benefits of Driving a 2013 BMW X3 Sport Utility Crossover
This sport-luxury crossover has a lot of competition, but the X3 fares especially well when it comes to horsepower and performance from its pair of turbocharged engines. BMW's EfficientDynamics technologies boost the X3's mileage to 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The X3's starting price is still under $40,000.
What's new for 2013?
The 2013 BMW X3 receives a brand-new turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, replacing the naturally aspirated 6-cylinder on x3 xDrive28i models. The new engine displaces two liters and makes 240 horsepower, the same number as the outgoing 6-cylinder. However while the old engine made 211 foot pounds of torque, the new 4-cylinder makes 260 foot pounds of torque. This torque is available lower in the rev range as well, making power more accessible for 2013 models.
Model Strengths
- Sporty yet practical utility
- standard all-wheel drive
- powerful pair of engines
Model Review
There are two versions of the X3, the 240-hp xDrive28i and the turbocharged, 300-hp xDrive35i. Both feature all-wheel drive, engine start-stop technology, hill descent control and an 8-speed automatic transmission. A 5-link rear axle gives the X3 a much smoother ride than many other SUVs and its modern shape creates plenty of cargo space.
