Now available in a new RS trim level, the 2013 Chevrolet Sonic is a sub-compact FWD vehicle available in five door hatchback and sedan trim levels. The Sonic is available with two different engines; a standard 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 138 hp/125 lb-ft of torque and an optional 1.4-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 138 hp/148 lb-ft of torque. The base engine is paired with a 5-speed manual while the optional engine can be paired with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. Although the Sonic will technically be "replacing" the Aveo in North America, the same car will be marketed overseas as the Chevrolet Aveo. The Sonic is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance.
