What's new for 2008?

A new two-door cabriolet joins the Audi RS4 lineup for 2008. Model Review

Audi took a lot of their Le Mans-winning racing technology and funneled it into the limited-production, four-door Audi RS4, which is joined in 2008 by a new two-door cabriolet model. Both body styles employ a 4.2L V8 to crank out 420 horsepower, and the engine makes the overwhelming majority of its 317 lb-ft of torque at slightly over 2,000 rpms.

Audi's RS4 sedan will return for another model year this fall, even as the company preps a new-generation A4 for a September debut at the Frankfurt auto show.

The new RS4 sedan, Audi says, will get a few new touches for 2008. The first is an optional Titanium package. For $750, this includes 19-inch wheels, a black grille, black window moldings, and a black headliner with piano-black trim on the interior panels. Sirius satellite radio and Bluetooth wireless are standard for 2008.

The second option package is the $3800 Audi exclusive package, which includes crimson-red leather seat centers with black leather side bolsters and headrests, with red piping; crimson door trim; red stitching on the shifter boot and steering wheel; piano-black interior trim; special RS4 floor mats and new badging. Sirius and Bluetooth are also standard here, as well as on all RS4 sedans.

Safety Ratings What do the Safety Ratings mean? The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests: Driver Crash Grade: Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury. Passenger Crash Grade: Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger. Rollover Resistance: Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover. Side Impact Crash Test - Front: Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury. Side Impact Crash Test - Rear: Similar to the front side impact test only now the focus is on the rear passenger.
