What's new for 2008?

For 2008, Jaguar's entry-level luxury car gets a subtle facelift, including a revised mesh grille. On the sedan, rain-sensing windshield wipers become standard, while inside, upgrades include improved standard features like ten-way power seats for both driver and passenger, with driver memory, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The X-type is slated to be discontinued at the end of the 2008 model year.

Model Review

The compact 2008 Jaguar X-Type is available in two very well-equipped models: the 3.0 sedan and the Sportwagon. Both models are powered by a 227-horsepower 3.0L V6, which is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The engine is tuned for strong mid-range torque, which sees it dash to 60 mph in only 7.1 seconds while also returning 16 mpg city/22 mpg highway.

Jaguar Refaces the X-Type

Jaguar has revealed a facelifted version of its entry level model, the X-Type sedan and wagon.

Engineers say there are 500 new components in the car, which will go on sale early next year. Visually the most obvious elements are the revised front and rear bumpers, new side sills and protective moldings, plus door mirrors with integrated turn signals.

Inside, the speedo and tach have been refreshed, and there's tungsten and chrome detailing around the air vents and steering wheel controls. The front seats have also been redesigned.

Additional technology includes a more advanced Bluetooth system, revised parking aids, and the availability of DAB digital radio inEurope.

A diesel automatic transmission will also be offered for the first time, pairing the 2.2-liter diesel with a six-speed sequential transmission.

Among the new options are different exterior and interior colours, a new rosewood veneer, and two new designs of alloy wheel.

"The new X-Type stands for accessibility, versatility, luxury, and choice within the Jaguar range," said CJ O'Donnell, Jaguar's global marketing director. "The package of revisions - particularly the automatic transmission in the 2.2 diesel - presents our established dealers and the key emerging markets with an excellent opportunity to reach new customers and retain existing owners."

No word yet on the car's fate in the U.S. market - or on Jaguar's sale from the Ford empire.
