Unchanged for 2009, the Mitsubishi Raider pickup truck is available as a Double Cab crew cab, which has four full-size doors, or an Extended Cab, which has two reverse-opening rear doors and a longer cargo bed. With rear-wheel drive as standard and four-wheel drive optional, the Raider is powered by a 3.7L V6 engine capable of 210 hp and 235 lb-ft of torque paired to a six-speed manual transmission, while a four-speed automatic is optional. The Double Cab can accommodate four passengers, while the Extended Cab seats three. EPA estimates for Mitsubishi Raider fuel economy range from 16 mpg city/20 mpg hwy for the Extended Cab manual transmission to 15/20 mpg for the 2WD automatic transmission to 14/18 mpg for the 4WD Double Cab automatic transmission. Standard safety features include dual advanced front airbags, outboard rear head restraints, antilock braking system, body-on-ladder frame construction, front and rear crumple zones and energy-absorbing octagonal front frame-rail tips.
The 2009 Mitsubishi Raider is based on the popular Dodge Dakota. As such, it rides on a capable chassis, but features a distinctive, edgy look all its own in keeping with the current Mitsubishi model line. When introduced in 2006, the Raider was ranked Best in Class in AutoPacific's Vehicle Satisfaction study. With the V6, the Raider can haul between 2,950 pounds and 4,150 pounds, depending on drivetrain.
The 2009 Mitsubishi Raider remains virtually unchanged from last year. The base model with manual transmission gets an adjustable steering wheel and auxiliary input jacks are no longer available at any trim level.
The 2009 Mitsubishi Raider is closely related to the Dodge Dakota pickup but has unique sheetmetal and was styled independently by Mitsubishi's design center in California. Compared to most pickup designs, Mitsubishi says the Raider to have an 'urban edge,' and the front treatment is especially reminiscent of other vehicles in the Mitsubishi line.
