2008 Land Rover Range Rover Sport: What's New

Land Rover's sporting sport-utility vehicle, the Range Rover Sport, joined the off-road brand lineup in 2006. Last year, Land Rover added an HST version which added an electric sunroof, an electronic active locking rear differential and privacy glass to the popular ute.

For 2008, the Sport returns with no major mechanical changes. New power-folding exterior mirrors have been added, along with an eight-way power passenger seat up front, and a power-adjusting steering wheel. Some console trim pieces get new finishes, and the HSE's leather door inserts have been restyled. And customers who choose the Supercharged edition get a choice of wood interior treatments, leather, and optional 20-inch wheels.

The Sport HSE continues to be powered by a 4.4-liter V-8 that generates 300 horsepower and 315 lb-ft of torque. The Supercharged 4.2-liter version, meanwhile, generates 390 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. This engine will take the vehicle to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds.

Both versions ride on a fully independent automatic load-leveling air suspension, with standard anti-lock disc brakes that include Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Brake Assist. Also included are stability control, Hill Descent Control and an Active Roll Mitigation feature that helps to stabilize the vehicle during severe handling maneuvers. The Terrain Response System that made its debut in the 2005 LR3 is likewise standard. This feature allows the driver to tailor the vehicle's electronic controls and traction aids according to varying road conditions.
