Benefits of Driving a 2008 Mercedes-Benz R-Class Wagon Crossover

The 2008 Mercedes-Benz R-Class is a roomy vehicle and an unusual, luxurious alternative to either a minivan or sport utility vehicle. Overall, it's one of the best vehicles for transporting a large number of people (up to seven) in comfort. A newly available rear-wheel-drive version and the discontinuation of the high-performance R500 and R63 AMG versions render the R-Class strictly a luxury people-mover. The R320 CDI, with its efficient turbo-diesel engine, promises to be as efficient as a minivan at the pump.

What's new for 2008?

For 2008, rear-wheel-drive is available on the R350, allowing for a slightly smaller entry price of $41,900. The high-performance R500 and R63 AMG versions have been discontinued. Newly optional on all R-Classes is three-passenger second row seating, making it possible to seat seven. Outside, standard AMG body touches and 18-inch wheels add a sporty panache.

Model Strengths

  • Unique body style
  • very roomy interior with space for up to seven
  • comfort and luxury.

Model Review

With a more streamlined profile than most sport utility vehicles, the Mercedes-Benz 2008 R-Class combines some of the attributes of a minivan and tall wagon, with a roomy, luxurious interior that has seating for up to seven. It still retains some of the rugged running gear of an SUV.

2008 Mercedes-Benz R-Class: What's New

Source: The Car Connection

The R-Class "sports tourer" was introduced in 2006 as an all-new model. It resembles a slightly sportier and more aerodynamic wagon with conventional passenger-car doors - not unlike the Chrysler Pacifica. For 2007, Mercedes added a high-performance R63 AMG with 507 horsepower and a diesel-powered R320 CDI to the lineup.

For 2008, the R63 AMG and R500 versions have been dropped, leaving a V-6 diesel or gas version from which to choose.

The R350 model is now offered in rear- or four-wheel drive. Both versions are fitted to a new seven-speed automatic transmission with TouchShift capability. Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes are included, as is stability control.

Both the diesel and gas engine R-Class vehicles come with the AMG body kit and 18-inch wheels.

The R-Class offers a roomy passenger cabin that seats six or seven adults in three rows of seats; the two rear sets of seats can fold flat to accommodate various cargo configurations.

Side-curtain airbags are included and span all three seating rows - and a rollover sensor can deploy the seatbelt tensioners and the curtain airbags if the vehicle senses that a rollover is about to occur.

Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned Warranty  help
Certified Pre-Owned Warranty
To be eligible for Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) status, vehicles generally must be recent models with relatively low mileage. CPO vehicles must also pass a detailed inspection, outlined by the manufacturer, which is measured by the number of inspected points.
Warranty coverage can vary from one manufacturer to the next. While most certified pre-owned programs transfer and extend the existing new car warranty terms, others offer a warranty that simply represents an additional year and mileage value. Always check with the manufacturer for the specific warranties they offer.
Common features and benefits of Certified Pre-Owned warranties include:
Age/Mileage Eligibility
To even be considered for certification, a car must be a recent model year and have limited mileage. The exact requirements are established by individual manufacturers.
Lease Term Certified
Some manufacturers offer certified pre-owned cars for lease. The length of the lease is often shorter than a new car lease, but it will cost you less.
Point Inspection
These inspections entail a comprehensive vehicle test to ensure that all parts are in excellent working order. The point inspection list is simply a numbered list of exactly what parts of the car are examined. While many inspections range from a 70- to 150-point checklist, most are very similar and are performed using strict guidelines. Ask your local dealer about specific details.
Return/Exchange Program
Some manufacturers offer a very limited return or exchange period. Find out if you will get the sales tax and licensing/registration fees back should you return or exchange the car.
Roadside Assistance
Most certified pre-owned programs offer free roadside service in case your car breaks down while still under warranty.
Special Financing
Reduced-rate loans are available through many certified pre-owned programs. Manufacturer-backed inspections and warranties help eliminate the risks involved with buying pre-owned, so buyers who qualify can take advantage of the great offers.
Transferable Warranty
When a new car warranty transfers with the certification of the car and remains eligible for the next owner, it is known as a transferable warranty. Once the original transferable warranty expires, an extended warranty takes effect.
Warranty Deductible
This is the amount for which you are responsible when repair work is performed under the warranty. Some manufacturers require a deductible while others don't, so always ask.

The MBCPO Limited warranty provides vehicle coverage for 12 months and Unlimited vehicle miles and begins at the expiration of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty
Age/Mileage Eligibility 6 years / 75,000 miles
Lease Term Certified Yes
Point Inspection Yes
Return/Exchange Program Yes. See dealer for details.
