Benefits of Driving a 2008 Suzuki Reno Hatchback

A long list of standard convenience features for the price, along with an especially strong warranty, are the primary selling points for the 2008 Suzuki Reno, which is closely related to the Forenza sedan and assembled by GM Daewoo in South Korea. The Reno also stands out for having a smooth ride and impressive interior space relative to other small cars its size.

What's new for 2008?

For the 2008 Suzuki Reno, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls are now included with the optional Convenience Package, and the top-of-the-line Luxury Edition has been discontinued. Otherwise the Reno is carried over to 2008 with few other changes.

Model Strengths

  • Convenience features
  • low entry price
  • lengthy warranty
  • convenient five-door body style
  • smooth ride.

Model Review

The front-wheel-drive 2008 Suzuki Reno is powered by an economical 2.0L DOHC four-cylinder engine making 127 horsepower, mated to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. The automatic has a 'hold' mode switch to reduce hunting between gears in hilly terrain or when carrying fully loads. With the five-speed manual, the Reno gets EPA fuel economy ratings of 20 mpg city, 28 mpg highway.

2008 Suzuki Reno: What's New

Source: The Car Connection

The front-drive Reno compact hatchback sedan is based on the Forenza and is also manufactured in South Korea. Largely a carryover for the 2008 model year, the Reno will be discontinued in the near future as Suzuki plans new products for the U.S. market.

The standard drivetrain remains the 2.0-liter, 127-horsepower engine also used in the Forenza, with the buyer's choice of five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission with adaptive control system that alters shift points and firmness to match driving conditions.

The Reno's interior is larger than many competitors and it is priced very competitively as well. New equipment for 2008 includes steering-wheel audio controls on the Convenience package, and optional Bluetooth connectivity across the lineup.

Safety Ratings help

What do the Safety Ratings mean?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests:

Driver Crash Grade:

Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury.

Passenger Crash Grade:

Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger.

Rollover Resistance:

Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover.

Side Impact Crash Test - Front:

Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury.

Side Impact Crash Test - Rear:

Similar to the front side impact test only now the focus is on the rear passenger.
