Benefits of Driving a 2008 BMW 6 Series Coupe

The 2008 BMW 6-Series sedan stands apart from its 5-Series sibling thanks to its high-tech, performance-oriented features, which enable it to fill the double role of sports car and comfy luxury coupe. And the exclusive M6 model has performance to rival many exotics from specialty sports car makers, while still having enough refinement for everyday driving.

What's new for 2008?

Mostly unchanged, the BMW 6-Series receives minor freshening and equipment changes for 2008. The front end has been restyled to increase air intake for engine cooling, and the trunk lid has also been reshaped. LEDs accent the taillights and turn signals. Inside, iDrive's programming has been tweaked for greater ease of use.

Model Strengths

  • High performance in all regards
  • exceptional seats
  • comfortable ride
  • high-tech options.

Model Review

BMW's performance luxury coupe and convertible 6-Series models are available in the U.S. primarily in 650i form for 2008, which includes a 360-horsepower, 4.8L V8 engine with variable valve timing and variable intake lifts and a dual exhaust system. The engine is matched to two possible transmissions: a six-speed manual transmission and, new for 2008, a six-speed sport automatic transmission with steering wheel paddles.

2008 BMW 6-Series: What's New

Source: The Car Connection

BMW has subtly reshaped the 6-Series Coupe and Convertible for 2008. The pair also get a new transmission, new interior trim and colors, and new seat material in convertibles that reflects some infrared heat.

The 6er's 360-horsepower, 4.8-liter V-8 returns for the 2008 model year, now mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed "automatic sports transmission" that offers paddle shifting and a choice of a Sport mode that speeds up gearchanges and retunes the car's accelerator and steering for optimal response. With the manual, BMW says the 650i Coupe will accelerate to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds while the Convertible takes 0.3 seconds more. Both models are limited to 155 mph.

The 6's reshaped front and rear ends incorporate technological updates as well. The front end wears a wider air intake, and new directional lamps with LED lighting and crystalline lenses. Bi-xenon dual round headlights are standard.

At the back end, the 6 wears a reshaped decklid with a concave surface below the spoiler lip, and a high-mounted brake light incorporated into the spoiler lip. All taillights are now LEDs as well. Two new paint colors, Deep Sea Blue and Space Gray, as well as new light-alloy rims, highlight the subtle changes.

Inside a new Chrome Pearl Grey Design trim is applied to some of the controls. Maple or birch wood can be swapped out for the standard aluminum trim, and Pearl leather can be specified, as can Chateau Red and Saddle Brown. Some control buttons have been reshaped, and the iDrive controller has six programmable memory keys for easy access to its functions. A new leather used in the Convertible incorporates SunReflective technology which BMW says can reflect some infrared rays and keep the car's seats up to 36 degrees F cooler.

Among the techno upgrades to the 6ers is a lane departure warning system that uses a camera to track the car's movement in its lane, and warn the driver with a vibration in the steering wheel when the car veers outside the stripes. Active headrests move closer to occupants' heads in an accident to prevent whiplash and neck injury. And the BMW Dynamic Driving Control system returns; it allows the driver to engage a "sport" mode gives quicker throttle response, reduced steering boost, and more aggressive shifts with the automatic or sequential-shift transmissions. Other technical features include Active Roll Stabilization, Active Steering, run-flat tires, and a head-up display (HUD).

A high-performance "M" edition of BMW's large coupe was added to the line for 2006. Like the M5 sedan, it is powered by a 500-horsepower V-10 engine that comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission; it can reach 60 mph in about 4.5 seconds

BMW Certified Pre-Owned Warranty  help
Certified Pre-Owned Warranty
To be eligible for Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) status, vehicles generally must be recent models with relatively low mileage. CPO vehicles must also pass a detailed inspection, outlined by the manufacturer, which is measured by the number of inspected points.
Warranty coverage can vary from one manufacturer to the next. While most certified pre-owned programs transfer and extend the existing new car warranty terms, others offer a warranty that simply represents an additional year and mileage value. Always check with the manufacturer for the specific warranties they offer.
Common features and benefits of Certified Pre-Owned warranties include:
Age/Mileage Eligibility
To even be considered for certification, a car must be a recent model year and have limited mileage. The exact requirements are established by individual manufacturers.
Lease Term Certified
Some manufacturers offer certified pre-owned cars for lease. The length of the lease is often shorter than a new car lease, but it will cost you less.
Point Inspection
These inspections entail a comprehensive vehicle test to ensure that all parts are in excellent working order. The point inspection list is simply a numbered list of exactly what parts of the car are examined. While many inspections range from a 70- to 150-point checklist, most are very similar and are performed using strict guidelines. Ask your local dealer about specific details.
Return/Exchange Program
Some manufacturers offer a very limited return or exchange period. Find out if you will get the sales tax and licensing/registration fees back should you return or exchange the car.
Roadside Assistance
Most certified pre-owned programs offer free roadside service in case your car breaks down while still under warranty.
Special Financing
Reduced-rate loans are available through many certified pre-owned programs. Manufacturer-backed inspections and warranties help eliminate the risks involved with buying pre-owned, so buyers who qualify can take advantage of the great offers.
Transferable Warranty
When a new car warranty transfers with the certification of the car and remains eligible for the next owner, it is known as a transferable warranty. Once the original transferable warranty expires, an extended warranty takes effect.
Warranty Deductible
This is the amount for which you are responsible when repair work is performed under the warranty. Some manufacturers require a deductible while others don't, so always ask.

Every Certified Pre-Owned BMW comes with a protection plan designed to give you the ultimate peace-of-mind.

All Certified Pre-Owned BMW vehicles are exceptional, as are our two tiers of certification:

-BMW Certified Pre-Owned: Covers you for 2 years/50,000 miles¹ after the expiration of the 4-year/50,000-mile New Vehicle/SAV Limited Warranty for a total of 6 years/100,000 miles¹. This includes 24/7 Roadside Assistance and BMW AssistTM Emergency Call, which includes automatic collision notification, and TeleService

-BMW Certified Pre-Owned Elite: These are newer model year, lower mileage (more than 300 miles but less than 15,001 miles) vehicles. This warranty covers you for 1 year/25,000 miles¹ after the expiration of the 4-year/50,000-mile New Vehicle/SAV Limited Warranty or for a total of 5 years/75,000 miles¹. This includes 5 years of 24/7 Roadside Assistance and BMW AssistTM Emergency Call, which includes automatic collision notification, and TeleService.

Vehicles must pass a rigorous pre-certification inspection conducted by BMW certified technicians.
