For 2009, the 4-door, 5-passenger Jaguar XJ8 and XJ8 L are enhanced with new standard features, such as 19-inch wheels, a navigation system, an Alpine premium sound system and front parking sensors. Among the options in 2009 are heated/cooled seats and heated steering wheel. The 2009 Jaguar XJ comes equipped with a 4.2L V8 and six-speed automatic transmission. All but the XJR and Super V8 employ engines with 300 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque and get 16 mpg city/25 mpg hwy and 19 mpg combined. The XJR and Super V8 supercharger boosts output to 400 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque, but lowers fuel economy to 15 city/22 hwy and 18 combined. The Jaguar XJ Super V8 Portfolio, limited to 140 units for the US, features premium 20-inch wheels, oak veneer/aluminum interior trim, stitched leather door covering and exclusive "celestial black" or "astral gold" colors. Standard safety features include antilock brakes, stability control, front-seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags. The XJ features an "Adaptive Restraint Technology System" to deploy the various airbags.
The venerable XJ is Jaguar's flagship car, and it comes in six trims: XJ8, XJ8 L, XJR, Vanden Plas, Super V8 XJ and new-for-2009 Super V8 Portfolio. Jaguar's XJ sedans offer a uniquely British look and feel, and the long-wheelbase models in particular offer vast back-seat space without significantly sacrificing maneuverability. According to Jaguar, the long wheelbase XJ models are the longest in their class--longer than the Mercedes-Benz S-Class or BMW 7-Series. Acceleration and handling with either the standard engine or the supercharged engine is impressive, as is fuel-efficiency, all the while maintaining a smooth, luxurious ride.
A special-edition Portfolio model that is only available in two exclusive colors and includes special wheels and tires, power-folding chrome mirrors, 4-zone climate control, alloy interior accents and heated front and rear seats is added to the 2009 Jaguar XJ line.
The 2009 Jaguar XJ sedan is available with two engines, in two different lengths--short wheelbase (SWB) and long wheelbase (LWB)--in a total of six trims. LWB models are stretched by five inches between the front and rear wheels compared to the SWB models, yielding 4.5 inches more rear legroom while having the same trunk space.
