Considering the significant upgrades last year, the 5-passenger 2009 Nissan Titan pickup truck sticks to minor changes, including speed-sensing locks and a Max Utility Package. Trim upgrades feature a matte-black grille and body-color front bumper on the XE and a Titan Heavy Metal Package with chrome step rails on the SE and LE. 2009 Nissan Titan standard features include a 5.6L V8 engine touting a hefty 317 hp and 385 lb-ft of torque paired to a five-speed automatic transmission, which is equipped with a tow-haul mode for heavy loads. Either two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive is available. An optional tow package on the extended cab can pull up to 9,500 pounds, but the crew cab tops out at 9,400 pounds. Fuel economy, as estimated by the EPA, for the Titan 4X4 can achieve 12 mpg city/17 mpg hwy and 14 mpg combined. Antilock disc brakes are standard on all Titan trims, while front-seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags are optional. Another option on all trims except the XE is stability control.
As the name implies, you get a lot of truck in the Nissan Titan. For less than $30,000 in any configuration, it features a standard 5.6L V8 engine that makes 317 hp and 385 lb-ft of torque that can haul a 2,000-lb payload or tow 9,500 lbs. For people that need that kind of capacity -- including room for five or six guys in the cabin -- the 12 mpg city, 18 mpg highway gas mileage is par for the worksite course.
The Titan range of full-sized pickups got a freshening for the 2008 model year, so changes for 2009 are minor, and mostly to the list of options. A Heavy Metal package with chrome exterior accents is new for this year, as is a long-wheelbase option.
With two cab sizes, four bed sizes, four trim levels, and a long list of options and available packages, there are dozens of ways to configure the Titan to fit the job at hand. Every Titan gets the 5.6L V8 engine, which is capable of running on E85 bio-ethanol fuel, and a 5-speed transmission. Front air bags and ABS are also standard features.
