The 4-door 2010 Ford Fusion adds two new trims at opposite ends of the performance/economy spectrum. The 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid gets an EPA-estimated 41/36 mpg city/highway while the Fusion Sport comes equipped with a 3.5L V6 producing 263 hp and available all-wheel drive. Exterior changes include a revised front fascia with new grille, headlamps and larger fog-lamp openings to give the 2010 Fusion a more aggressive look, while also providing aerodynamic improvements to boost fuel economy. Base models receive a new 2.5L 4-cylinder that produces 15 hp more than the outgoing 2.3L while also getting better gas mileage. EPA-estimated figures for the 2.5L engine are 23 city/34 hwy mpg for the automatic. The 2010 Ford Fusion also boasts an all 6-speed transmission lineup, apart from the CVT in the hybrid. The Ford and Microsoft developed SYNC system has been upgraded to provide automatic 911 dialing upon airbag deployment and custom Vehicle Health Reports.

What's new for 2010?

For 2010, the Ford Fusion gets freshened styling, as well as a host of powertrain improvements and additions. A 3-bar grille and more angular headlamps have been added to the nose and an aggressive-looking front lower air intake is also now fitted, with large fog lamps mounted to either side. All engines receive a boost in power, and the 3.0-liter V6 is now capable of running on E85 fuel. A new Fusion Sport is available, featuring a 263-horsepower 3.5-liter V6, and a gas/electric hybrid makes its debut this year, featuring a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder paired with an electric motor. A 6-speed manual and automatic are now available, up from only five speeds in 2009, and a new blind spot alert system is available.

Model Review

Safety Ratings What do the Safety Ratings mean? The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests: Driver Crash Grade: Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury. Passenger Crash Grade: Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger. Rollover Resistance: Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover. Side Impact Crash Test - Front: Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury. Side Impact Crash Test - Rear: Similar to the front side impact test only now the focus is on the rear passenger.
