The 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt is a fun car that won't break the bank. Available as a coupe or a sedan, you have your choice of engines. The Cobalt has a 2.2L inline 4-cylinder which produces 155 hp or you can jump up to the 2.0L inline 4-cylinder turbocharged SS engine which produces a class-leading 260 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Both engines get at least 30 mpg on the highway, with the 2.2L engine reaching all the way up to 37 mpg highway! OnStar is now standard on all trims of the 2009 Cobalt, and the sedan is available in SS trim. The 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt standard features include front disc brakes on all trims (the SS trim receives 4-wheel Brembo brakes), a premium ride suspension, driver and passenger front airbags and side-impact head-curtains and an audio system with AM/FM/CD and XM radio. Cobalt options include a leather wrapped steering wheel with audio and Bluetooth phone controls, a remote starter system, a sunroof and many more dealer installed performance extras. The 2009 Chevy Cobalt has the added convenience of a 60/40 rear split-bench with a pass-through to the trunk. What's new for 2009?

For 2009, the Cobalt undergoes a few changes. Both the Sport coupe and Sport sedan have been dropped from the lineup, as has the available 6-disc in-dash CD stereo. An SS Turbocharged sedan joins the Cobalt family. Bluetooth hands-free access is available, and a tire sealant and inflator kit replaces the standard compact spare tire. GM's OnStar system now comes standard. LT sedans are now only available with an automatic transmission, and the Performance Appearance Package has been replaced by the Sport Appearance Package.

For 2009, the Chevrolet Cobalt is available in several trim levels and two body styles -- The LS, LT and SS trims are available in either coupe or sedan models. A 155-hp 2.2L Ecotec inline-4 with variable valve timing powers LS and LT cars. A 5-speed manual is standard on LS and LT coupes and LS sedans, while a 4-speed automatic is standard on LT sedans and available on the rest. SS Turbocharged Cobalts are powered by a 260-hp 2.0L inline-4, which puts out 260 ft-lb at just 2,000 rpm. The potent engine is mated to a 5-speed manual.

Safety Ratings What do the Safety Ratings mean? The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests: Driver Crash Grade: Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury. Passenger Crash Grade: Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger. Rollover Resistance: Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover. Side Impact Crash Test - Front: Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury.
