Blending the comfort of an Explorer with the utility of the F-150, the 2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac is a versatile vehicle due to its SUV body and pick-up truck bed. The four-door, five-passenger Explorer Sport Trac is available in two trims, the XLT and the Limited. Both trims offer RWD or 4WD, while the Limited is also available with AWD. The standard engine is a 4.0L V6 which produces 210 hp and is connected to a five-speed automatic transmission. On the Explorer Sport Trac Limited you have the option of a 4.6L V8 which pumps out 292 hp and is connected to a six-speed automatic. The 2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac successfully straddles the pick-up and SUV markets, offering a niche vehicle for consumers.
The Ford Explorer Sport Trac is built on the same chassis as the Explorer SUV, but with the wheelbase extended nearly 17 inches. This allows room for four full-size passenger doors and a short pickup bed. Two available engines, a 4.0L V6 and a 4.6L V8, are capable of towing 5,060 lb and 7,160 lb, respectively. Gas mileage is in line with other crew-cab pickups, at 13 mpg city and 19 mpg highway. Because of its unique configuration, the Explorer Sport Trac is a versatile option for those looking for the comfort and amenities of an SUV and the cargo-carrying capabilities of a pickup.
Scheduled to be phased out before 2011, the 2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac is largely unchanged, though some packages have been shuffled.
For 2010, there are two levels of trim available for the Sport Trac--XLT, Limited--plus one souped-up, tuner-style Adrenalin package for the Limited edition. Each model is available with either a 4.0L V6 making 210 hp and 254 lb-ft of torque mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission or a 4.6L V8 with 292 hp and 315 lb-ft of torque mated to a 6-speed automatic.
