As Dodge's flagship sports car, the Viper continues to offer a lot of performance for the dollar. Available in both coupe and roadster configurations, it's a car for those who value all-out performance over daily comfort. It's equally at home on the autocross track or the drag strip, and its 600-hp 8.4-liter V10 offers both brutal power and throaty sound through its side-exit dual exhaust.

What's new for 2010?

The Dodge Viper SRT10 returns mostly unchanged for the 2010 model year. A new premium tan Nappa leather interior is available. The transmission has been upgraded with a new ZF Sachs twin-disc clutch that Dodge says lowers rotating inertia by 18 percent, giving less pedal effort and better engagement feel. Only about 500 Vipers are scheduled for production, as well as a limited run of 50 'Final Edition' models. The ACR Edition receives several small changes as well, including a 'Hard Core' package, which reduces weight by 40 pounds. Other updates include a shorter fifth gear ratio (from 0.74 to 0.80), a new short-throw shifter and new rear wing profile and end plates to reduce drag and improve stability. New colors include Toxic Orange and silver.

Model Review

The Viper's 8.4-liter engine remains unchanged from 2008, with Chrysler's unique variable valve timing offering 600 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque. Dodge claims under 4-second zero-to-60 times, with a 200-mph top speed. A Tremec 6-speed manual remains the only available transmission, and a twin-disc clutch and limited-slip rear end help wrestle the Viper's power to the ground. A special swinging oil pickup helps keep oil flowing even under hard acceleration and tight cornering.
