The 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class is a hardtop entry-luxury roadster that is available in SLK300, SLK350, and SLK55 AMG trim levels. The standard SLK300 comes with a 228 hp producing 3.0-liter V6 and 6-speed manual transmission. Upgrading to the SLK350 trim will grant you a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 300 hp and a 7-speed automatic transmission. Both models are RWD and get nearly the same gas mileage at an EPA estimated 19 mpg city and 25/26 mpg highway. The SLK55 AMG provides a performance boost thanks to a 5.5-liter V8 engine that produces 355 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. This performance roadster is also RWD but comes with an upgraded AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC transmission. Options include surround sound, dual-zone climate control, heated seats, two sport packages, navigation, and bi-xenon headlights. Safety features are comprised of anti-lock braking, brake assist, mini-roll bars, and 6-airbag restraint system. All SLK-Class models are covered by the Mercedes-Benz New Vehicle Warranty that covers all defects in material or workmanship for 2 years/50,000 miles.
The SLK-Class lacks in two things roadsters usually have in abundance: wind noise and poor rear visibility. This can be credited to the well-designed power-retractable hardtop, which works flawlessly. A perk of this luxury drop-top are the high-tech head restraints, which blow warm air on the driver's and passenger's necks to keep them warm even when the roof is open. Handling is sporty and quick, and the interior is as comfy as the ride. The SLK300 and SLK350 also achieve a respectable 26 mpg on the highway--impressive for a sporty convertible.
The Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class convertible is largely unchanged for 2011-- although the high-performance SLK55 AMG has been put on hold for the model year, it is scheduled to return for 2010 with mechanical updates.
The SLK300 has a 3.0L V6 under its long, sloped hood, while the SLK350 has a 3.5L V6. As one might surmise, the extra half-liter in an otherwise identical car makes a big difference. The 228-hp SLK300 with a 6-speed manual can reach 60 mph from a standstill in 6.1 seconds, while the 300-hp SLK350 with a 7-speed automatic does the same feat in only 5.4 seconds.
