Updated for 2011 the Land Rover Range Rover Sport is now available with two engine options; a standard 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine that produces 375 hp and an optional 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine that produces 510 hp. Both engines are paired with a 6-speed Command Shift automatic transmission that enables the driver to make manual sequential changes and enables the Range Rover Sport to an EPA estimated 13 mpg city and 18 mpg highway. The updated Terrain Response System offers a new launch control for soft sand conditions. Features include keyless entry, heated exterior mirrors, rear camera parking aid, 19-inch wheels, bi-xenon headlights, LED taillamps, electric sunroof, audio controls, hands-free phone capability, premium navigation system, HD radio, and surround sound audio system. Safety is comprised of front airbags, side curtain airbags, driver knee airbag, front seat pelvic/thorax airbags, electronic brake assist, dynamic response suspension, and engine immobilizer. The Range Rover is backed by a 4-year/50,000-mile warranty.
Range Rover thinks of itself as the last word in luxury, it could also be the last word in true off-road capability -- a combination not often found in the SUV market. Its Sand Launch Control and Rock Crawl Program are impressive engine control systems, while the leather interior with wood trim is one of the most best-regarded in the segment.
For 2011, the Range Rover gets further upgrades to its already impressive Terrain Response system with the addition of Hill Start Assist and Gradient Acceleration Control. There were a few updates to the exterior styling and the options list now includes a 19-speaker harman/kardon sound system and reclining rear seats. In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Range Rover, a limited Autobiography Black edition will be available.
The Land Rover Range Rover comes in four trims: HSE, HSE Lux, Supercharged and for this year only, the Autobiography Black limited edition. The HSE models features a naturally aspirated aluminum 5.0L V8 that makes 375 hp and 375 lb-ft of torque. The Supercharged version of the same engine will do 510 hp and 461 lb-ft of torque. The Range Rover uses a 6-speed automatic transmission and permanent 4-wheel drive with Electronic Traction Control for optimum handling on the commute or off the trail.
