Offered in LS, LT and LTZ trim levels, the 2012 Chevrolet Suburban is one of the largest sport utility vehicles on the United States market at 222.4 inches in length. Moving between 6 to 9 passengers depending on the selected cabin layout, air conditioning, XM satellite radio and Bluetooth connectivity are luxury items all trim levels of the 2012 Chevrolet Suburban share as standard features. On LT and LTZ models, there are five 12-volt power outlets found throughout the specious cabin. Two Chevrolet Vortec engines propel the 2012 Suburban through a 6-speed automatic transmission. A 5.3 liter V-8 produces 320 horsepower and 335 pounds-feet of torque for 1500 models of the 2012 Suburban. For even more spirited movement, a 352 horsepower Vortec 6-liter V-8 engine is offered on the Chevrolet Suburban 2500 version. Flexfuel certification for burning E85 blended gasoline is presented with both engines inside of the 2012 Chevrolet Suburban. An option of rear or four-wheel drive is available for both the 2012 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 and 2500 models.

The Tahoe and Suburban are Chevrolet's full-size SUVs. The Suburban is essentially the Tahoe's longer-wheelbase bigger brother. Both the Tahoe and Suburban are offered in LS, LT and LTZ models, while the Tahoe Hybrid comes in a single trim. Each of these models is available with a choice of rear- or 4-wheel drive. The Tahoe and Suburban both offer a standard 320-horsepower, 5.3L V8 engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The heavy-duty Suburban 2500 also offers a 6.0L V8 that makes 352 hp and 382 pound-feet of torque.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests: Driver Crash Grade: Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH.
