Fresh off of last year's redesign, the full-size 2012 Toyota Avalon sedan is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 268 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque. FWD is paired with an electronically controlled 6-speed automatic transmission (ECT-i) to achieve fuel mileage within an EPA estimated range of 20 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. The lineup for the 2012 Toyota Avalon is simple. All Avalons come with a 268-horsepower, 3.5L V6 engine that's very smooth and plenty strong for this big sedan. It's mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, which shifts so smooth, they're nearly imperceptible. With a dual VVT-i variable valve control system, the Avalon is reasonably responsive yet achieves an EPA estimated 20 mpg city, 29 highway.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests: Driver Crash Grade: Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH.
